Careers
We are principally interested in hiring lateral attorneys, with one to two years experience, and second-year law students. We seek well-rounded individuals with high aptitude, ability and motivation and a committed interest in the practice of law in a busy law firm.
Summer Associates’ Program
The purpose of our summer associates’ program is to provide both our summer associates and the members of our firm with the opportunity to become acquainted with each other under actual conditions of practice. While we recognize that not every law student who clerks with us will end up receiving and accepting an offer of employment, we hire as summer associates only law students whom we deem presumptively qualified for an associate position upon admission to the bar. We encourage our summer associates to attend trials, hearings, depositions and conferences with our attorneys and clients so that they can experience firsthand what the practice of law is like in Hawaii in general, and in our office in particular.
Associates’ Program
New associates are given an opportunity to work in all areas of our practice, and with all of the firm’s partners so that each of them can, as soon as possible, become well acquainted with our professional staff, our clients and the kinds of work we do. Our partners maintain an “open door” policy and associates are encouraged to seek guidance. A single partner is assigned to assist associates with balancing workload, assignments and other matters as the need may arise.
Pro Bono and Community Service Work
Our firm encourages all of its professional personnel to participate in pro bono and community service work in the areas of their separate interests, even if such efforts often require attention during the ordinary business day and may involve substantial responsibility and leadership. We believe it to be consistent with our role as lawyers and with our vision of our own firm for our professional personnel to offer their services to the larger community. |
